When driving becomes unsafe, the world shrinks. Missed appointments. Skipped social events. Pharmacy runs that don't happen until the medication runs out. Transportation is one of the first things that goes, and one of the most consequential.

AnchorPoint caregivers can drive clients to medical appointments, the pharmacy, the grocery store, church, the library, family gatherings, anywhere within our service area. The caregiver stays with the client the entire time, helps with mobility, and provides whatever assistance is needed.

This is different from a taxi or rideshare. The caregiver isn't dropping the client off. They're providing companionship and support throughout the appointment or errand, and they document anything important to communicate back to the family or the clinical team.

Common Situations Where Transportation Makes a Difference

From First Call to First Visit

1

Assessment

During the free consultation, we identify regular destinations and one-time needs.

2

Scheduling

Recurring appointments get scheduled in advance. One-time errands can usually be added with a day or two of notice.

3

Caregiver assignment

Transportation visits are paired with the client's regular caregiver when possible for consistency.

4

In-visit support

The caregiver stays throughout the appointment or errand, providing whatever help is needed, and documents anything the family or care team should know.

Questions Families Ask About Transportation

Do caregivers use their own car?
+

Yes, caregivers drive their personal vehicles. All caregivers carry their own auto insurance, and AnchorPoint maintains additional coverage.

How far can caregivers drive?
+

Our standard service area is a 60-mile radius from Salem. Most appointments stay within Marion and Polk Counties.

Can a caregiver wait during an appointment?
+

Yes. The caregiver stays with the client throughout the visit unless the client and family specifically prefer otherwise.

Is transportation covered by Medicaid?
+

Transportation as part of in-home care services is covered by Oregon Health Plan for eligible clients. Standalone medical transport may be covered through separate Medicaid transportation benefits, which we can help navigate.
